Congratulations are due to Christopher Chessun, the newly appointed Bishop of Southwark. I am sure he is very amply qualified for this post, and an excellent choice. I hope the wounds caused by the fact that Jeffrey John's name was reportedly put forward and then vetoed will not mar the sense of celebration over this appointment.
Colin Coward in this post on the Changing Attitude blog has written about an apparently not -very- well -publicised change in the way the Church of England appoints bishops. His point is that is unlikely to get any easier for gay priests and bishops, or at least for openly gay priests and bishops to be appointed.
